City of Montgomery Texas
Beginning as a trading post in 1826 and chartered
in 1837, Montgomery is one of the oldest cities in Texas. It was the first
county seat of Montgomery county and is also the birthplace of the Texas Lone
star flag.
Downtown Montgomery is located at Texas 105 and FM 149 in west central,
Montgomery County. It is close to the Sam Houston National Forest in
western Montgomery County and 15 miles west of Conroe, Texas, the current county
seat. when you visit Montgomery, you will find a preserved 19th Century
Historic Downtown District plus many retail shops and local attractions.
Growing by leaps and bounds, Montgomery has exemplary schools and numerous
communities that area great place to find your dream home. For local
shopping and restaurants, there are major centers located Conroe, Magnolia and
The Woodlands. The first Saturday of every month brings the "Lone Star
First Saturday", an old fashioned farmers market at FM 149 and College St. in
downtown Montgomery.
Located on Texas 105 is Lake Conroe, a 22,000 acre lake just minutes east of
Montgomery that features numerous marinas, fishing guides, a wonderful park with
a swimming area, plus the Southern Empress that provides a romantic evening for
dinner and dancing. During the fall season, you'll want to check out the
Texas Renaissance Festival just a short distance away in Plantersville on FM
1774. This festival is one of the nation's largest, most acclaimed
festivals that is open every weekend during October and November.
If you're a golf enthusiast, there are wonderful courses located in Montgomery,
Conroe Magnolia and The Woodlands. Campers, hikers and bikers will love
the 2000 acres Huntsville State park located about an hour north in Huntsville.
This park is home to the 105 mile Lone Star Hiking Trail. For the great
taste of fresh fruit, you'll want to try King's Orchard in Plantersville, just
north of the Renaissance Festival.
Two major Houston airports, Bush Intercontinental and Hobby, allow you to choose from numerous airlines for your business and leisure travel. If you like to cruise, you're only 90 minutes from the Port of Galveston where you'll find Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise lines.

County of Montgomery Texas
With a 2007 estimated population of over 411,000, Montgomery County is in the top 50 fastest growing counties in the United States. Located north of Houston and Harris County, Conroe Texas has been the county seat since 1888. The county offers an abundance of recreational opportunities, including boating, fishing, hiking and golf. There are also great shopping complexes and restaurants.
The county of Montgomery Texas has deep rooted history. It was the third county formed under the Republic of Texas and named in honor of Brigadier General Richard Montgomery. Later the county was proclaimed as the birthplace of the Lone Star Flag by the Texas Legislature. The economy of the county was primarily agriculture until oil was discovered southeast of Conroe. Early in 1930, the Montgomery County oilfields made it one of the richest oil producing areas in the nation. Oil production in the county has declined but it is still one of the leading sources of income to this day.
In the five county Metroplex area of Houston, Montgomery county ranks in the top 20% of single family home sales. Price per square foot has increased as much as 8% or more in a five year period with the median price per square foot averaging $100+ in 2007.
